  • Semaglutide Updates?

Thanks to all of your information I was able to weigh risk benefit in initiating Wegovy while breastfeeding my 16 month old. I have spoken with my PCP and I am starting the injections soon. I wanted to check in and see if there were any updates on the data collected thus far regarding breast milk samples from other women taking semaglutide injections while breastfeeding? If not are you all still accepting samples, I’d be happy to contribute once I start the medication. Thank you all for all the hard and important work you do!

    Hi Jessica,

We're working on the manuscript for semaglutide now! The short story is that we didn't find semaglutide in milk. If semaglutide prevents you from consuming enough nutrients, it could still be problematic for an exclusively breastfed infant. Your 16-month-old should be getting nutrients outside of milk so this isn't as much of a risk for your situation, and if you choose to start Wegovy, I'd recommend both you and your child take a daily multivitamin. Also understand that if you aren't eating enough calories, your body might stop producing milk.

    Hope this answers your questions
