How long should someone pump and dump after a dose of adipex (75mg)? Taking into consideration that was the first time taking it, NOT on it daily. Infant is 3 months old and also gets two bottles of formula everyday.

Adipex and pumping to dump

katelyn,
Adipex (phentermine) is rated an L4-no data-possibly hazardous. This medication has a half-life of 20 hours, so it would be hard to pump and dump and not expose the infant to this medication. No data are available on its transfer into human milk. This product has a very small molecular weight (186 Daltons); therefore, it most likely would transfer into human milk in significant quantities. It could produce a variety of adverse effects in the infant such as changes in sleep, irritability, hypertension, vomiting, tremor and weight loss. The use of this product in breastfeeding mothers would be difficult to justify and is not advised. (Medications and Mothers' Milk)
