When is it safe to breastfeed after consuming ecstasy/MDMA?

    Hi, thanks for your post.

We have no information about the effects of MDMA on babies or about how much ends up in the breastmilk. In adults, the drug has a half-life of about 8 hours. One "half-life" is the amount of time that it takes to eliminate half of the drug in your system. Four half-lives, 32 hours in this case, is usually enough to render all but the most toxic drugs safe for breastfeeding. I advise interrupting your breastfeeding for that period.

Please call us at the InfantRisk Center if this has not completely answered your question.*(806)352-2519
