  • Vyvanse and breastfeeding twins

I‘m considering starting Vyvanse for my binge eating disorder. I am currently breastfeeding my 8 month old twins. They are eating solids twice a day and nursing the rest of the day/night.

I read that 1.8-6.2% of the mother’s dose gets into the breast milk and that the highest amount is found in the milk at 3.5 hours after taking it. So my question is, would it be save for me to take 30-50mg Vyvanse and continue to breastfeed my twins if I try to avoid nursing at the 3.5 hour mark? And am I assuming correctly that because I am nursing two babies that they would each get about half of those 1.8-6.2%?

    TwinMom17,

We recommend keeping the dose low at about 20-30mg a day, and to avoid the peak time of the 3.5 hours. Then as long as yours infants are not symptomatic, agitation, irritability, poor sleeping patterns, poor weight gain you can continue to nurse.
