  • Abilify and Lactation Failure.

    Hello,

I am 6-months post-partum and am just coming to learn that Abilify decreases prolactin levels. I had no idea! I take 2mg of Abilify daily. I struggled to produce milk for my baby and was unable to breastfeed or pump enough to sustain my baby. I didn't know at the time that the abilify was likely the cause. I want to switch to another antipsychotic that will NOT decrease my prolactin level before we have a second baby. I am considering either quetiapine or risperidone. Are either of these better options to support lactation? I would like to discuss these alternative options with my psychiatrist. Thank you!

I’ve been checking the forums monthly but have not gotten any response on my inquiry. Just re-circling here. Is there a recommended antipsychotic for breastfeeding?
