  • New info about Mag Sulfate?

    Hello,
One of the LCs in my practice recently called the Infant Risk line because she was unsure about a dosage of mag sulfate that a new postpartum mother was receiving. (2gms/hr, which actually is pretty standard here). She was told that this mother should pump and discard her milk until 12 hours after the mag sulfate was discontinued. This seems to contraindicate the L1 status that is published in Dr. Hale's book, and I can't find any other resource that states this---every source says that mag sulfate levels in breastmilk are minimal, which is also what is stated in M&MM. Could you clarify? Is it the dose? We may have to change our whole practice due to this since we have a significant number of mothers who have been breastfeeding while on mag sulfate.
    Thanks!
