I can't find perindopril/tert-butylamine (ACE inhibitor) in Med's and Mothers'Milk. What is known about this medication?
The mother has a 7 week old baby.
There are no published studies on perindopril and breastfeeding. However, because of reported low levels in breastmilk with similar ACE inhibitors, it is unlikely that much of this medication would be present in breastmilk. Use of another ACE inhibitor that we have more information on, such as enalapril, ramipril, benazepril or captopril, would be preferred. We give perindopril an L3 safety rating (out of 5, "Probably Compatible") mainly due to the lack of data. ACE inhibitors are dangerous during the first trimester of pregnancy, so this mom should not take and ACE inhibitor if she is planning to become pregnant again in the near future.
