Is there any information available as to the safety of Eliquis in breastfeeding mothers? Have looked in a couple of resources but couldn't find any info. Thank you!

Hi, thanks for your post.
No direct studies of Eliquis (apixaban) in breastfeeding women have been published. Animal studies show that this drug appears in milk to a significant degree. The drug is moderately bioavailable, so the infant is likely to absorb a fair amount of it. The potential risk from even sub-therapeutic exposure is substantial. Until we have more information, I would say this is not a good drug to use in breastfeeding women unless the benefit to the mother is enough to justify it.
