neo-laryngobis (dipropylacetate bismuth)

I'm a LLL leader and a mother asked me if it was safe for her to take Neo-laryngobis. I searched in the 2010 edition of MMM and haven't found anything except Bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) but I don't think it's the same product. Can you tell me if she can take Neo-laryngobis? Her baby is about 2 months old.

Neo-laryngobis is apparently a form for bismuth, Bismuth Dipropylacetate. It is generally used as a rectal suppository, I assume for diarrhea. As such, these products are not well absorbed to any degree and are probably not contraindicated in a breastfeeding mother.

That said, they are not necessarily ideal, and probably only minimally effective. For diarrhea, I generally recommend Loperimide (Imodium), as it works well and is not absorbed orally at all.
