  • Cough caused by nasal drip

I've had a cough for a few days caused by nasal drip. Feels like it's coming from the base of my neck. It's worse at night and bothers the baby when I'm nursing (he lets go of his latch). I'm taking Claritin and Flonase, and sucking on cough drops at night. I think the cough is caused by a combination of allergies and a cold. I don't have any congestion in my nose. Is there anything else I can do for the cough?

    Kristin:

The only preparation that really works to retard a cough is codeine. A small dose of Robitussin AC which contains about 5 mg of codeine is usually quite effective. But you'll have to ask you doctor for this, as it is a prescription product.

This small dose would not both most normal infants.
