  • Loratadine

My hospital owns the 2008 HALE book and loratadine is not rated in this book. Is there a current rating for this medication? Or any thoughts on breastfeeding mothers taking it?

    Thank-you!

    Dear Maggie,

Loratadine is classified as a L 1. The T max is one and one-half hours after the dose. Observe infant for sedation and dry mouth although less likely compared to the older antihistamines such as Benadryl. Loratadine is compatible with breastfeeding.

    Sincerely,
