  • Allegra 24 Hour 180mg

I have a 5 month old, and would like to know if Allegra 24 hour 180 mg is ok with breastfeeding. It says Fexofenadine HCI 180mg on the label (it is Walmart's equate brand). Thank you for your time

I'd suggest Allegra, fexofenadine, is probably safe to using during breastfeeding. At most, only 0.7% of it gets to the infant daily.

In a study of 4 women receiving 60 mg/day terfenadine, no terfenadine was found in milk. However, the metabolite (fexofenadine) was present in small amounts. The average milk level of fexofenadine was 41 ?g/L while the maternal plasma averaged 309 ng/mL. The time to peak for milk was 4.3 hours and the half-life in milk was 14.2 hours. The AUC (0-12) was 320 ng/hr/mL for milk and 1590 ng/hr/mL for plasma. The authors estimate that only 0.45% of the weight-adjusted maternal dose would be ingested by the infant.
