Is it safe to take 20mg fluoxetine while breastfeeding?
My son is one years old and breastfeeds 2 times during the day and 3 or 4 times at night.
    Thank you in advance

    Failure,

Prozac (fluoxetine) is rated an L2-limited data-probably compatible. The amount transferred into breast milk is 1.6-14.6% of your dose. [COLOR=#333333][FONT=lucida grande]Fluoxetine has been used in perhaps a million breastfeeding mothers over the last 2 decades. While sertraline and escitalopram levels in milk are probably lower, fluoxetine is quite suitable for breastfeeding mothers and their infants. Remember, the risk of untreated depression is far higher than the risks of this medication. Monitor your infant for sedation or irritability, not waking to feed/poor feeding and weight gain.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519
