  • Remotiv and breastfeeding - how safe?

Hi, and thanks for this forum!

I got this question from a breastfeeding mother to a 20 month old toddler who nurses once a day plus at night:

Is "Remotiv 500" safe to take while breastfeeding?

I searched and found out the website for this med: http://www.flordis.com.au/product/remotiv

Looks like it's based on a natural herb, St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum).

I would love to get any information on this medication.

    Thank you in advance!

    Ronnie:

I don't know much about this product. We have one paper which suggests it is probably not a major problem, as it could not be found in the breastfed infants. My advice is still to seek help from her physician and spend her money on an antidepressant that we know a lot about, such as Zoloft, etc. Sertraline is now generic and is quite cheap, probably a lot cheaper, perhaps safer, and efficacious than this herbal product.
