I am working with a mother who is now pregnant and due the end of October. She is taking a variety of medications and is interested in breastfeeding.
Here is what she is taking:
    Buspirone 15mg 3/day for anxiety
    Abilify 5mg 1/day and Citalopram 20mg 1/day for depression
    Labetalol 100mg 2pills 2/day for blood pressure

They are still adjusting the dose on Labetalol.
Can she breastfeed while taking all of these medications together? What needs to be monitored if she does breastfeed?
Thank you for your help. I can be reached by phone at 205-410-6586

    Dalia:

In essence, yes she should be able to breastfeed taking these meds, assuming the infant is normal, full term, etc. The infant will get much less during lactation than during pregnancy, so it should be fine. For more information call the InfantRisk center after delivery and we can advise you specifically about each drug and its transfer to milk. 806-352-2519
