  • Medication concern

Hi, I have a 3 week old who was born at 37wks and 4days. I take 40mg Celexa, 60mg Buspar, 2.5mg Bystolic and 7.5mg Deplin daily. My OB and pediatrician both feel that it is fine for breastfeeding. I took all these meds while pregnant. My baby seems to be eating well. He falls asleep during breastfeeding but I am told that is normal. He has periods of wakefulness but sleeps most of the time between feedings. He is gaining weight above normal.
I would like some reassurance that these meds are safe while breastfeeding or should I switch to formula??

    Sara:

I think you have you assurance, he is gaining weight. All newborns sleep the majority of the time, and often fall asleep while at the breast.

I'd confer with your pediatrician to see what he/she thinks, but as long as weight gain is normal, it would seem to me that the infant is doing OK.
