  • Hydrolyzed casein peptides

    Hi, dr. Hale!

A mother wants to try one of the OTC antidepressant drugs containing hydrolyzed casein peptides (to avoid the possible use of prescription antidepressants). Peptides are not advised to breastfeeding mothers due to lack of studies. What's your opinion?

    Thank you!

    Hydrolyzed..

I am allergic to MSG (which comes under many guises, including anything hydrolyzed or autolyzed) and there are many people who think MSG is linked to many health issues including autism and ADD. I personally avoid it at all cost, and wouldn't feed it to my baby. I saw it was even in Gerber cheese puffs for infants. Sick. People say it's safe, but if you could see what it does to my body, there is no doubt in my mind that it's not. I would't risk it.
On a different note, I also have the same reaction to SSRI's and most anitdepressants as I do MSG. Not sure if they are linked or not, but I know MSG has been used in medication before.
