  • Milk donor taking Lexipro

    Hello,
Due to low supply, I supplement with donor milk. The donor gave birth on 3/14 and began Lexipro due to postpartum depression.
My son is nearly 5 months old and receives about 2-3 ounces of donor milk to supplement each feed.
While I've read Lexipro (escitalopram) is considered relatively safe for breast feeding infants, I would like to know as much as I can.
-What level is it, L1, L2?
-What symptoms should I look for in my baby?
-What else can you tell me?
Thanks in advance; this is a wonderful resource!

    SpeechMum:

It's apparent that the donor milk is not from a donor milk bank. Thus it is difficult for us to advise you concerning what dose of Lexapro this mom is taking, or what effect it will have on your infant.

However, at 5 months, it the risk is somewhat less as the infant has grown and can tolerate drugs better.

I rate Lexapro as : L2-Limited Data- Probably compatible.

    Symptoms: Sedation.
