I take a very low dose of Wellbutrin currently - 100mg once per day (not the extended release). Is this safe to take once I'm pregnant? Will I be able to take it while breastfeeding?
At this time we have no conclusive data that bupropion produces birth defects. There have been thousands of cases studied and to date, there does not appear to be an increased risk of teratology in infants exposed during pregnancy. Remember, about 3% of all births have some anomaly. And, it probably safe to use during breastfeeding. About 0.2 to 2% of the dose gets to the infant via milk, so it is very low.
