    Hello,
I am currently bf a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I have been on zoloft since November. It is not working for me so my doctor is switching me to Effexor. He would like me to take 25mg of zoloft ans 37 mg of Effexor then discountinue the zoloft. After I an completely off the zoloft then the Effexor dosage will be adjusted. Is this safe to do while breastfeeding? I was worried after reading about serotonin overload.
    V/r,
    Ashley

    Ablue:

I'd follow your doctors instructions. The amount of Zoloft in milk is low, so a taper won't matter much.

        Ablue33,

Effexor is also ok. Effexor is rated an L2-limited data-probably compatible. The amount that transfers into breast milk is 6.8-8.1% of your dose. Monitor your infant for sedation or irritability, not waking to feed/poor feeding and weight gain.
