I read MMM and in one study of 11 bfing moms no incidence of toxicity with this medication. However, am wondering if there is a preferred medication for BiPolar Disorder that may be safer as this medication is L3. Thanks.

Dear dflohr,
Two other medications that are used to treat Bipolar disorder and are L2's are olanzapine (Zyprexa) and quetiapine( Seroquel). Two others that are L3's are Lamictal and Risperidone. Once you and your physician decide which of these medications is best for your specific symptoms, please call us at the InfantRisk Center. We are open Monday through Friday, 8 to 5 CDT. We can give you specific information on your medication and breastfeeding.
Sincerely,
Cindy Pride, MSN, CPNP
