  • Aspirin and antenatal expression of colostrum

    Dear all,

I am 34 weeks pregnant and breastfeeding twice a day a 2y9m toddler.
Due to hypertension in my first pregnancy I have been taking since the beginning of the current pregnancy, 75 mg of Aspirin daily. I also take vitamin E, C, Calcium, Magnesium and D3 and iron supplements.
I am planning to antenatal express some colostrum in case the newborn baby would need to be supplemented during our hospital stay.
Are there any precautions that I should follow in this case, given the fact that I take Aspirin? (e.g stopping treatment prior to starting expression / expressing after a minimum of hours after taking he Aspirin?)
    Thank you! Best regards!

    Andreea,

Wait 2-3 hours to breastfeed or express milk after a dose of aspirin. If your child (toddler) has a known viral illness such as the flu or chickenpox hold the aspirin for the day or wait 24 hours.
