  • HIPEC and breastfeeding

I have appendix cancer, and in a couple of months I will undergo cyto-reductive surgery with heated intra-peritoneal chemo using mitomycin C. It's a one- time application within the abdomen, no IV administration.

I'm currently breastfeeding my newborn and am looking for info on whether I can continue after a period of pump and dump. I can't find any data on mitomycin C and/ or HIPEC and breastfeeding. My surgeon says he sees side effects crop up 2-3 months after the procedure. Does that mean it could be in my milk that long?
