  • Pipercillin tazo sodium 3.375 gm q 6 hours I'VE

    Hi,

Mother delivered infant @ 35.5 weeks via c/s. Baby is now 5 days old, mother has starting pumping. Can she safely save/feed her milk to her baby on pipercillin? She is also taking Levaquin 750 mg by mouth every 24 hours. Thank you!

Think this mom should go ahead and breastfeed. Piperacillin is not even absorb ed orally. Levaquin relative infant dose is 10-17%, although no complications have been reported. If the mother chooses to pump her milk, I would urge you to go ahead and discard it. If she is not going to breastfeed or bottle feed the milk, then why expose the infant to these drugs later on.
