  • xopenex and pulmicort

I am currently dealing with bronchitis and I am a mild asthmatic. I am currently on Azithromycin and was prescribed Pulmicort and Xopenex. Both of these inhalers state specifically on the box not to use them if you are breastfeeding and my doctor stated they would be "probably" fine to use while breastfeeding my 8 month old son (6-10 times a day). Are there any long term studies showing the impact of these on the breastfeeding infant? I don't know how to quantify "probably". Thank you!

    Scotiamom:

All these medications should be just fine for a breastfeeding mother. Pulmicort and Xopenex are barely even absorbed through the lung, so levels in the plasma and most certainly milk are negligible.

It is far more important for your infant for you to keep healthy.
