  • Roxithromycin and breastfeeding

Warm wintery scandinavian greetings to you all !

I´m trying to find information on roxithromycin and breastfeeding. I didn´t find anything on my (signed copy of MMM 2010. I´m happy to hear any additional information you might have on the subject. In Finland the drug trade name is Surlid.

    warmly,

    Ruut:

Roxithromycin is very similar to erythromycin, with a slightly longer half-life. We of course do not have milk levels on this macrolide antibiotic, but I'd assume its about 2% of the maternal dose is transferred daily.
As with erythromycin, I'd be cautious using it the first 4 weeks of life due to a possible problem with stimulating pyloric stenosis.

A much better choice is azithromycin.
