Would it also be safe to take an acidophilus supplement while taking the metro gel?

    Laurie1214, thanks for posting,

Metronidazole is rated L2-safer. Both topical and vaginal preparations of metronidazole contain only 0.75% metronidazole. Milk levels following intravaginal use would probably be exceedingly low. Metronidazole is used in preterm neonates, infants, and children. No adverse pediatric effects in several studies. Monitor for dry mouth, vomiting and diarrhea, and rash.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please call the InfantRisk Center at 806-352-2519. Thanks,

    Sandra Lovato R.N.

    Metronidazole Vaginal Gel

I have a 5 month old baby and was prescribed 0.75% metronidazole vaginal gel for five nights. Is it safe to continue breastfeeding while on this medication? I keep reading information indicating that it could cause childhood or adulthood cancer so I am very nervous to take it. Thank you.
