Tinidazole 500 mg and a 2.5 year old

I was prescribed a 4 day dose of 500 mg of Tinidazole.

My 2.5 year old still nurses multiple times a day, definitely before/after nap, before bed, morning.

My doctor said it was fine for me to nurse her, my pharmacist said not for 7 days.

We have several studies of tinidazole and it really transfers into milk avidly, with at least 12.5% of the dose entering milk. Your level will drop about 5 fold by 20 hours, so with 4 days of dosing, your plasma levels (probably milk levels) will be continuously high for at least 30-70 hours after your last dose.

At 2.5 years, your infant is not getting much milk, thus the dose via milk is probably exceedingly low. I doubt the risk is very high for your infant.

However, if it were my baby, I think I'd keep him from feeding for 30 hours after the last dose. But this is of course, your decision.
