    Diflucan looks like an L2, but stays in mom's system for a long time. Is it safe for breastfeeding? Baby is just past 24 hours old.

    Hi, thanks for your post.

    Yes, it does stay in the mother's system for a long time, but it's a relatively benign drug. Based on experimental data, we can estimate that a mother taking 150 mg/day would deliver about 0.3 mg/kg/day to her infant via the milk. The therapeutic dose of fluconazole for neonates is 6 mg/kg/day. This drug is unlikely to cause problems in such small quantities.
