  • How soon after taking Flagyl and Bactrim can I resume breastfeeding?

I was placed on Flagyl 500 mg-1 every 8 hours for 16 doses and bactrim 800mg/160 mg- 1 tablet every 12 hours for 5 days for the infection on my C-section incision. How soon after I finish my final doses can I resume breastfeeding my 3 week old?

Congratulations on your new baby! We are sorry that you're having complications with your c-section site. It will likely be safe to continue breastfeeding the day after you finish Bactrim assuming he/she is healthy. If you would like to call and talk to us, we can get more specific information and it is possible that you can continue breastfeeding while on Bactrim. Flagyl is safe.
