  • Doxycycline

My baby is 6 weeks old. I know that doxycyline is safe short term, but I was prescribed it for 6 weeks. If I supplemented with formula while on the doxycycline, could I breastfeed for longer than 3 weeks? Or does it not work that way?
    thanks!

    Hypatafava:

6 weeks of Doxycycline is a bit much. I'd suggest you first ask your doctor if another antibiotic would work. If not, then I'd suggest your go ahead and breastfeeding for 3-4 weeks while taking the antibiotic, then supplement half the time with formula for the last 2-3 weeks...then resume full breastfeeding.

Discard the milk contaminated with doxycycline.
