I was prescribed vancomycin (125MG capsule) four times a day to treat c-diff. My pediatrician said there was no data and I should stop breastfeeeding. I’ve attempted to feed my baby formula and breast milk from a bottle and he won’t take it so I’ve yet to take the medication. Does your research indicate that it is safe? If it is, should I take the medication right after I breast fed for minimal exposure? My baby is 3 months old.

BabyEZ,
Vancomycin is rated an L1-limited data-probably compatible. The amount that transfers into breastmilk is only 6.5-6.6% of your dose. Vancomycin is poorly absorbed orally so transfer into breast milk is minimal. Monitor your infant for vomiting, diarrhea, rash and thrush.
