  • Nucynta (Tapentadol)

Any info available? I'm interested, in particular, in the half-life.

    Dear Karen,‬

Tapentadol (Nucynta) is an opiate analgesic and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. There have been no studies done on the effects of tapentadol in breastfeeding mothers. It is considered a L3 medication. The time it is most concentrated (T max) is 1.25 hours after the dose. The half-life is 6 hours. Only 32 percent of the dose in breastmilk would be orally bioavailable. The molecular weight is 258 daltons, with 20 percent protein binding, and has a large volume of distribution. It is a lipophilic drug and the pKa is basic. The typical adult dose is 50 mg to 150 mg up to four times daily. Until studies are done, caution is advised in breastfeeding mothers.‬

    Sincerely,‬
