  • Oxycodone

I had gallbladder surgery and i was prescribed oxycodone 10/325 to break in half and take half or if needed a whole every 4-6 hours as needed. I’m still breastfeeding my 11 month old, is this safe to continue breastfeeding him while I take this? Or should I call and ask them to prescribe me something else for pain.

      Angelbrooke96,

We think that the Percocet (oxycodone/acetaminophen) is probably ok for short term use. We do recommend keeping your dose at 30-40mg or or less in 24 hours. Take it after nursing so that you have a break before nursing again as the peak time is 1-2 hours after a dose. Monitor your infant for sedation, slowed breathing rate, apnea, poor feedings and constipation.
