  • Tramadol - New FDA Drug Safety Communication

We are reviewing the use of Tramadol for post-Caesarean section analgesia in our tertiary level maternity unit. Our current standard prescription is Paracetamol 1gm QDS, Ibuprofen 400Mg QDS and Tramadol 50-100mg PRN. In light of the FDA Drug Safety Communication recently, what would your recommendations be regarding tramadol use in this way please? Are there other medications you would recommend instead?
    Warmly
    Penny Wyatt RM IBCLC
