  • Urocit K and breastfeeding

    Good afternoon,
One of my patient has to take some Urocit K for treating Kidney stones. She is breastfeeding her 3 weeks daughter. Is it safe to take this medication during breastfeeding? I have seen an oldest post saying yes,but I would like to check if you have other information since then
    Thanks for your feed back

    Dr Bouvier,

Sorry I am afraid we do not have any new information since the previous post by Dr James Abbey. The amount of potassium in breast milk seems to stay at about 9-14meq. The breast have a way of regulating the amount of potassium that passes into the milk and levels do not seem to rise with supplementation. The citric acid is rapidly metabolized and has not been identified in breast milk.
