  • Medical Lubricant

I am a paraplegic mother breastfeeding my child. I have to use a lubricant for my bowel program 2-3 times a day. Recently switched to Surgilube that contains Chlorhexidine Gluconate. Was curious if this was safe if still breastfeeding? I thought this might be a safer option than a lubricant (Dr Sheffield’s) I was using, but now I’ve started questioning. Didn’t know if there would be uptake or the antiseptic into my bloodstream/milk supply? And if it would be considered significant.

Would KY Jelly (that contains parabens) be any safer? Any lubrication recommendations that you would consider safe?

Thank you so so much for your time and expertise!
