    Dr. Hale,

What is the current recommendation for tattoo removal while breastfeeding? I have a full-term, healthy 6-month old and I am curious to know whether there have been any studies on the free ink particles getting into breastmilk after tattoo removal.

    Thanks very much!

    Mnicole,

There are no studies to say if the ink is reduced to small enough particles to pass into breast milk, but why take the risk. We recommend waiting until the baby is weaned to have a tattoo removed.
