Hi I’m just wondering if you could help me with something. I’m currently breastfeeding my 19 month old daughter and found out I’m pregnant. We had a miscarriage about a month ago and luckily got pregnant straight away. The problem is I have had 3 miscarriages to date, 2 before our daughter and one after. The only baby that lasted was when I was put on baby aspirin 75 mg and progesterone 400mg pessaries one a night. My question is whether it’s safe to continue to breastfeed my daughter or could the progesterone or aspirin make it into my milk and negatively affect her. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Progesterone pessaries while breastfeeding

Muireann:
The aspirin is just fine. We just published this data and we found no aspirin in milk. The progesterone doesn't transfer either. When administered orally, as your infant would receive it, it is sequestered in the liver and doesn't reach any final compartment.
So, it should be fine to breastfeed while on these drugs.
