  • Cephalexin while breastfeeding

I have been prescribed Cephalexin 500mg 4x a day for 90 days to treat cellulitis in my big toe. Is this okay to take while breastfeeding? My baby is 6 months, I am only pumping at 12am, 6am, 12pm, and 6pm because I have a lot of freezer milk but not enough to last untill my baby turns 1.

Burnest: I'd suggest you go ahead and breastfeed. The small amount of cephalexin in breastmilk will probably not cause many changes in your infant. If he/she had diarrhea, then you might want to reduce exposure by introducing formula.

Do I need to give my little one a probiotic or anything? If so what do you recommend. Also, she has reflux really bad do you think my cephalexin will bother her?

Burnest: Your milk is the best probiotic you can give. I would not use anything else.
