  • Gastric Emptyibg Study

    Hello,

I had a gastric empty study this past Friday and received technetium 99 in eggs, they said I could breast feed after 24 hours, but I am nervous. My little one is almost 14 months and I was considering just weaning her. How can I know for sure my milk poses no risk to her?

LKB: they are correct. Technetium-99 has a 6 hour half life. After 24 hours, almost none of it is still active. I too suggest waiting 24 hours, even though most other advise that its not even necessary to stop breastfeeding at all. I still think 24 hours is relatively easy and it removes ALL risks of the radioisotope.
