Hi I'm wondering if it is safe to take 2 antidepressants simultaneously while breastfeeding. For example could you take Wellbutrin AND Zoloft OR Wellbutrin AND Prozac?

Mindvelocity,
It is probably ok to breastfeed while on two different types of antidepressants if your Dr prescribes them together, and if your infant is not symptomatic. Using more than one medication with the same side effects could increase the risks of those side effects. Be sure and discuss the possible interactions while using these medications together with your Dr.
Zoloft is rated an L2-limited data-probably compatible. The amount that transfers into breast milk is only 0.4-2.2% of your dose. This one has been extensively studied and the data is consistent that levels in the milk are low. Monitor your infant for sedation or irritability, not waking to feed/poor feeding and weight gain.
Wellbutrin is an L3-limited data-probably compatible. The amount that transfers is only 0.11-1.99% of your dose. There has been two seizures reported with this medication, but a febrile seizure with one of these reports cannot be ruled out. There have also been a few reports that it has reduced the mothers milk supply, but many mothers breastfeed without complications. Monitor for sedation or irritability, seizures, not waking to feed/poor feeding and weight gain.
Prozac is rated an L2-limited data-probably compatible. The amount that transfer is 1.6-14.6% of your dose. Monitor your infant for sedation or irritability, not waking to feed/poor feeding and weight gain.
