  • Orkambi and Breastfeeding alternating every other week?

Hello. How long does Orkambi stay in the mother's body? Could I alternate between breastfeeding for a week, and getting back on Orkambi for a week and throwing out the pumped milk?
    Thanks!

    CysticFibrosisMama,

Orkambi is a combination drug of lumacaftor and ivacaftor. The half-life of lumacaftor is approximately 26 hours in patients with CF. The half-life of ivacaftor when given with lumacaftor is approximately 9 hours. Dr Hale recommends having a monthly liver panel on the infant and regular eye exams to check for cataracts.

Dr Hale would love to do a case study with your breast milk. If interested in the study please call the InfantRiskCenter at 806-352-2519, all it will cost is a little of your breast milk and it will help other mothers down the road.

    Thanks,

    Sandra Lovato R.N.
