Hello,
I am 17 weeks pregnant and currently take .75 - 1mg of Clonazapam per day. I have bipolar disorder and chronic anxiety. My doctors have recommended that I try to ween off of the medication about 1 month prior to delivery to help eliminate possible sedative effects on the baby. They have also noted that it may cause a sedative effect on the baby if I take the medication while breast feeding.
What amount of the medicine is passed onto the baby through breast milk? Is this safe? I am so eager to breast feed but what to be sure that I am doing what is best for the baby. Do the pros of breast feeding outweigh the cons of the medication?
Thank you for your help!
