  • Lithium Orotate 5mg and Breastfeeding/Pregnancy

Could you share any recommendations or concerns regarding Lithium Orotate 5mg and pregnancy, followed by breastfeeding? The supplement specifically contains Lithium Orotate 5mg and N-Acetyl-Cysteine (free form) 200 mg, manufactured by Pure Encapsulations. Although it is not a prescription medication, it was prescribed by my psychiatrist, who is aware that I am pregnant. I have been taking it for several years for anxiety.

    Thank you.

    2020mama:

I've never heard of using lithium for anxiety. It is only cleared for the manic component of bipolar syndrome. Further, it has some risk associated with heart damage when used in pregnancy.
I'd talk with your obstetrician about this, soon.
