    Breastfeeding with CIDP

    Hi Dr. Hale and team,

I was diagnosed with CIDP in March, shortly after my baby was born. From April to November, I had been on IVIg, with one 3-days dose of IV Solumedrol in September. I nursed throughout the whole time, but only pumped and dumped the recommended number of hours by your team during steroid treatment. My condition has gotten worse since then and my doctors will start me on plasmapheresis next week.

Now my baby is almost 10 months, who still nurse 6 times a day. I wanted to know if I can continue to nurse as neither my baby nor I are ready to wean. I will be doing 6 sessions of plasmapheresis over the course of two weeks. During the procedure, doctor will use normal saline solution, calcium gluconate, 5% albumin and anticoagulant citrate dextrose to replenish the serum and prevent blood clot. We will see if I respond to the treatment before going down the immunosuppressant route.

Your input is much appreciated. Thank you.

    Peggy
