I need to take 20 mg of Omeprazole for 30 days. Safe/unsafe for a nursing 2 1/2 year old? She nurses about once a day.

Dear mphwanga,
Minimal amounts of omeprazole enters breastmilk. The time the medication is highest in your milk is the first three hours after your dose so try to avoid breastfeeding during that time. Observe your child for diarrhea although unlikely since only small amounts enter milk, and she is older and able to metabolize medications well now. Omeprazole is compatible with breastfeeding.
Sincerely,
