  • Prednisone and nursing toddler

Hi, question : I'm nursing my 18mo DD. I have a nasty sinus infection and I was just prescribed Prednisone. It looks to be Cat C? The pamphlet from CVS specifically says it passes into milk but there is very little harm if any to baby. I can't get thru to Infant Risk line which is why I'm posting hehere from what I can find, as long as as I nurse before taking my medical I should be OK. The plan is 60mg daily tapering to 0mg over 12 days. By day 5 I should be down to 40mg for example. I did tell the Dr I was nursing and he was very nice and helpful with that being a factor in our convo about my treatment plan. Everything else prescribed is bf -friendly. Thanks in advance!

    Sunfrogger,

Prednisone is probably ok for short term use. We recommend waiting at least 4 hours to nurse for doses greater than 40mg.
