  • Current research on marijuana and breastfeeding

I am and an RN and LC at a large Maine hospital. We are looking at writing a policy/practice statement on marijuana use and breastfeeding. I have seen very few clinical studies on the effect of mj use on the breastfeeding baby; I've read a post on the subject from Dr. Hale on one of the these forums posted two years ago, but I was wondering if you had any more current or up to date literature or guidance. We are meeting later this week with NICU staff, MDs, LCs, etc to come up with an agreed-upon approach to working with the many, many women we see who use mj frequently during pregnancy and lactation.
    Thank you,
    Kristy Scher, RN, IBCLC

Marijuana is bad and should be avoid during pregnancy or nursing days. What you eat can put severe effect on your child in early days of his life so its better to avoid harmful eatables and add healthy food in your diet.
