  • Teeth Whitening While Breastfeeding

Hello! I'm wondering about teeth whitening while breastfeeding. I only breastfeed my 18-month-old about once a day, and am in the process of trying to wean him entirely (though he's fighting me on it). I'm in my brother's wedding in a week, and would like to whiten my teeth beforehand. From what I can tell online, the peroxide in teeth-whitening systems isn't considered safe while breastfeeding. However, if I were to nurse my son and then whiten my teeth after, with an approximately 24 hour gap before nursing him again, would that be enough time to be safe for him? Thank you for any information!

    GreatLakesMom:

Teeth whitening is not a problem at all. Peroxides don't last long in the mouth, and only seconds in the plasma compartment if they even reach the plasma.

    Its not a problem.
